The award-winning dream team of the Hong Kong theatre scene have teamed up with young creatives, sparking new energy in their 2024 production!

The Hong Kong original musical "Sing Out - A Musical", which won six major prizes at the 27th Hong Kong Drama Awards, will return to the stage in August 2024. The musical combines the mission of artistic heritage and character education. The 2024 production is organised and produced by HKAPA EXCEL, sponsored by the Lee Hysan Foundation. The professional creative team will collaborate with approximately 70 young people from various institutions to participate in the on-stage and backstage performance, injecting new vigour and creativity into the local musical theatre scene!

Synopsis

A confident and ambitious secondary school student, filled with youthful vigor, encounters young individuals from all walks of life. Together, they form an unconventional choir, determined to overcome past failures and rise to new heights. Unfortunately, their path towards pursuing their dreams is paved with challenges and setbacks. At the most bewildering crossroads, how will they rediscover their initial aspirations and emerge from the depths of despair? While searching for the meaning of music and life, will these "angry youths" transform into "passionate youths"?

EXCEL has been offering musical theatre training courses since 2002 and produces a significant summer musical for teenagers yearly. This year, young artists and students from Carmel Secondary School, Gertrude Simon Lutheran College, PAOC Ka Chi Secondary School, Ebenezer School, Home for the Visually Impaired, and the HKAPA Applied Learning Programmes will embark on a journey filled with both artistic and character education. The proceeds from ticket sales will be fully utilised to promote the development of youth musical theatre in Hong Kong.
