This course focuses on the aesthetic aspect of dance by engaging students in ta holistic experience as people, dancers and makers of dance through the “Three Key Learning Processes: Performing, Creating and Appreciation”. It involves learning to perform and create dance, learning to appreciate and appraise dance, and using dance to support cognitive learning. The course also provides an all-around training to students, in developing their creativity and imagination, and on the other hand enhancing their interpersonal relations and self-confidence. The Drama-based Public Speaking course is your first step toward becoming a sincere and engaging speaker with ‘presence’. The course will focus on your strengths and develop a platform on which to build your speaking skills. Students will be trained to take out of their comfort zones. In this course you will learn by doing through a carefully designed process of learning. Drama-based materials and techniques will be utilised to expand your public speaking ability and increase the scope of your comfort zone. The course is conducted in a small group of 8-10 participants to ensure ample attention is given to individual needs. Students will practice and present a speech at the end of the course.     Frequently asked questions Curriculum Dancing Jazz Dance Tap Dance Academic Subjects The Performing Arts Industry Professional Development Musical Theatre History in Practice Singing Singing Vocal Repertoire Drama Acting Entry requirement Applicants must be 16 years old or above, have completed HKDSE or equivalent, and pass the subject of English Language; or non-local qualifications such as a GCE AL, IB Diploma; High School Graduation Diploma or SAT, etc… All candidates must pass an audition. Experience in acting, singing and dancing will be an advantage. Application Procedures Complete an application form and return it with the following documents to HKAPA EXCEL, 1 Gloucester Road, Wanchai, Hong Kong. Completed application form. A headshot-to-waist photo and a full-body photo. Photocopy(ies) of academic and/or professional qualifications. A photocopy of identification document (HKID card or passport). A cheque for application fee payable to “EXCEL Ltd.” Audition Applicants will be invited to attend an audition. Candidates need to prepare the following: A one-minute presentation of monologue from any plays. A one-minute presentation of a song from any musicals or related styles. Candidates must provide their own pianist or prepare an MMO in CD format. At the audition, candidates will be taught a series of dance combinations and requested to present it before the panel of judges. A cheque of the Registration Fee payable to “EXCEL Ltd.” on or before the audition. (Registration Fee will be banked in when the student is accepted; the cheque will be returned to unsuccessful applicants. Candidates without Registration Fee payment cheque will not be auditioned.) PROGRAMME COORDINATOR The Programme Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth execution and operation of EXCEL programmes. Their primary responsibility is to support the Programme Team in developing both on-site and online programmes. They will collaborate with internal and external parties to address various aspects of programme delivery, including venue arrangement, website and database updates, scheduling, and managing programme operation issues such as attendance records, publicity, notices, and promotion. The Programme Coordinator will also be responsible for planning and supervising programme assistants and part-time helpers. This entails coordinating their tasks and ensuring their smooth integration into the programme operations. The ideal candidate should possess strong teamwork skills, excellent interpersonal abilities, and effective problem-solving capabilities. They should be adept at establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with all stakeholders, including tutors and students. Requirements A university graduate with a degree in relevant discipline. Candidates should have at least two years of work experience in the arts, non-profit, or education sector. Candidates with less experience may be considered for the position of Programme Assistant. Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrates a strong sense of responsibility and attention to detail. Proficient in both spoken and written English and Chinese, with proficiency in Putonghua being an advantage. Proficient in computer software, including Zoom, Teams, and MS Office. Knowledge of image or video editing is a plus. Demonstrates an interest in the arts and culture sector. A good team player who can multitask and is available to work flexible hours, including Saturdays, Sundays, or public holidays, based on the programme's scheduling requirements. Terms of Appointment ​ Appointment will be made on a two-year fixed-term contract. Contract may be extended at the end of two years with satisfactory performance. Duties and Responsibilities: Prepare and provide operational & logistical support such as class set up, equipment preparation, and live support to different courses and programmes. Handle phone calls and walk-in enquiries Handle course enrolments Liaise with students, tutors, or parents on course arrangement. Provide general administrative and clerical support such as data entry, stock check, etc. Perform ad hoc task requests as assigned by supervisor. Acting for Musical Theatre Songs / Acting for Musical Theatre Songs As musical theatre performances are becoming more popular in Hong Kong, the ability to interpret a song has become an important skill. Developing a character (characterization) for the purpose of delivering a song is an essential skill for all musical theatre performers. To perform a song with impact requires sound acting and drama skills. Acting for Musical Theatre Songs teaches you how to deliver a song with strong acting that tells a compelling story, a basic and essential skill in musical theatre. The course has two objectives: (1) to develop characterisation and interpretation skills for performance (or audition) of one song and to develop a rehearsal system with which students can rehearse themselves; and (2) to practice presentation skills appropriate for performing songs. This course is suitable for people with some musical performance experience and want to improve their musical performance skills for audition, musical performance, or musical directing. Experience in musical theatre is helpful but not necessary. Students should note that this is an acting-based course, not a course in vocal skills development. Students need to choose their own solo song (3 minutes maximum) and bring the following to class: 1) Chosen solo song on hard copy; 2) Accompaniment (MMO) track 3) Recording device, such as a smartphone; 4) Ear pods or earphones; and 5) Notetaking devices.
