EXCEL is a non-profit making subsidiary of HKAPA. The Programme Assistant will assist the Programme Team to assure the smooth execution and operation of EXCEL programmes. The Programme Assistant needs to perform general course administration and office duties, including but not limited to admission and enrollment services, venue scheduling, course promotion and graphic design, arrangement of course materials and equipment, maintenance of student and tutor records, database management, handling enquiries, supervising part-time operation and other ad hoc duties as assigned. Requirements: A Higher Diploma or above. Preferably with one year work experience, but fresh graduates will also be considered. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. strong sense of responsibility and attentive to details. Good command of spoken and written English and Chinese, proficiency in Putonghua could be an asset. Excellent working knowledge of MS Office and Chinese word processing. Part-time Summer Course Operation Assistants Part-time Course Operation Assistants are needed to support the summer course operations of part-time performing arts learning courses provided by HKAPA EXCEL. Duties and Responsibilities: Support classroom activities for summer courses, including taking student attendance and maintaining classroom order. Ensure a safe and engaging learning environment for course participants. Prepare and provide operational & logistical support such as class set up, equipment preparation, and live support to different courses and programmes. Handle phone calls and walk-in enquiries. Handle course enrolments. Liaise with students, tutors, or parents/guardians on course arrangement. Provide general administrative and clerical support such as data entry, stock check, etc. Perform ad hoc task requests as assigned by the supervisor. Requirements: Good command of English and Cantonese. Proficiency in MS Office applications (including MS Word, Excel and Chinese Word Processing). Good communication and interpersonal skills. Prior experience in learning centre or course operation support is an advantage. Knowledge of AV equipment is an advantage. Frequently Asked Questions FAQ How do I register for a course? You can register for a course on our official website or visit our Reception Counter in person. Can I register for someone else? Yes, you can register on behalf of someone else, provided that the applicant's name and contact details are accurately presented at the time of enrollment. This is necessary so that EXCEL can verify the course participant's identity and contact them in case there are any changes to the class. What payment methods are accepted? For online registration, you will need to settle the payment with credit cards. You may also visit our Reception Counter in Wanchai to settle the payment with cheque and cash. Where will the courses take place? Please refer to the venue information on the course details. You will also receive a course confirmation email listing the venue information. What is the attendance requirement in order to receive a Certificate of Attendance? Not every course offers the Certificate of Attendance, please refer to the course description. In general, students are required to attend at least 80% of the course to receive the Certificate of Attendance. Will there be a makeup class for me if I cannot attend a particular lesson? Please note that no make-up classes will be offered if the student is absent on his/her own accord. When will I know if my enrolment in the course is successful? A confirmation email will be sent to successful applicants at least 3 working days prior to the course commencement. Applicants who have not received email, please email sc.excel@hkapa.edu . Can I withdraw my application after I have paid the course fee? Course fees paid are non-refundable except under very exceptional circumstances such as the course is cancelled before the commencement. Can I change my course after I have registered? Please note that applicants cannot change to another course after paying the course fee. Does EXCEL accept late applications after the course has started? Depending on the availability of places, some courses may consider late enrolment. Please note that applicants enrol after the course start still need to pay the full course fee. It also requires an attendance rate of 80% or higher of the full course length in order to receive the Certificates of Attendance. To secure a place in the course, candidates are encouraged to apply early. What should I do if I want to change my personal information? We use email to notify students of unexpected situations. DSE Applied Learning Practical Skills for DSE Success Applied Learning Course Taking a Chance on Dance Taking a Chance on Dance is one of the Applied Learning (ApL) courses offered to senior secondary students as an elective subject within the senior secondary curriculum. This course focuses on the aesthetic aspect of dance by engaging students in ta holistic experience as people, dancers and makers of dance through the “Three Key Learning Processes: Performing, Creating and Appreciation”. It involves learning to perform and create dance, learning to appreciate and appraise dance, and using dance to support cognitive learning. The course also provides an all-around training to students, in developing their creativity and imagination, and on the other hand enhancing their interpersonal relations and self-confidence. This course is conducted in Chinese. The Drama-based Public Speaking course is your first step toward becoming a sincere and engaging speaker with ‘presence’. The course will focus on your strengths and develop a platform on which to build your speaking skills. Students will be trained to take out of their comfort zones. In this course you will learn by doing through a carefully designed process of learning. Drama-based materials and techniques will be utilised to expand your public speaking ability and increase the scope of your comfort zone. He has also been a tutor in School of FTV, Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts since 2010. Born is also a Registered Architect and HKIA Member. Acting for Musical Theatre Songs / Acting for Musical Theatre Songs As musical theatre performances are becoming more popular in Hong Kong, the ability to interpret a song has become an important skill. Developing a character (characterization) for the purpose of delivering a song is an essential skill for all musical theatre performers. To perform a song with impact requires sound acting and drama skills. Acting for Musical Theatre Songs teaches you how to deliver a song with strong acting that tells a compelling story, a basic and essential skill in musical theatre. The course has two objectives: (1) to develop characterisation and interpretation skills for performance (or audition) of one song and to develop a rehearsal system with which students can rehearse themselves; and (2) to practice presentation skills appropriate for performing songs. This course is suitable for people with some musical performance experience and want to improve their musical performance skills for audition, musical performance, or musical directing. Experience in musical theatre is helpful but not necessary. Students should note that this is an acting-based course, not a course in vocal skills development. Students need to choose their own solo song (3 minutes maximum) and bring the following to class: 1) Chosen solo song on hard copy; 2) Accompaniment (MMO) track 3) Recording device, such as a smartphone; 4) Ear pods or earphones; and 5) Notetaking devices. The Hong Kong original musical "Sing Out - A Musical", which won six major prizes at the 27th Hong Kong Drama Awards, is coming to the stage in August 2025. The musical combines the mission of artistic heritage and character education. The 2025 production is organised and produced by HKAPA EXCEL, sponsored by the Lee Hysan Foundation. The professional creative team will collaborate with approximately 80 young people from various institutions to participate in the on-stage and backstage performance, injecting new vigour and creativity into the local musical theatre scene! Synopsis A confident and ambitious secondary school student, filled with youthful vigor, encounters young individuals from all walks of life. Together, they form an unconventional choir, determined to overcome past failures and rise to new heights. Unfortunately, their path towards pursuing their dreams is paved with challenges and setbacks. At the most bewildering crossroads, how will they rediscover their initial aspirations and emerge from the depths of despair?
