Professional Development Connecting Performing Arts with Career Advancement Teaching and Learning Series / Teaching and Learning Series: Introductory voice workshop Ever wondered how to unlock the full potential of your voice? This introductory voice workshop will provide you with a solid foundation in understanding voice mechanics and everything you need to know about using voice. It will also help you clear away common misconceptions about voice usage and how to maintain healthy vocal use. It will also cover the application of vocal techniques in various musical theatre singing styles, extending beyond the realms of opera and choir voices. Date: 8 June 2024 (Saturday) Time: 10:00am – 1:30pm Venue: The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Language: Cantonese with English materials Certificate: The participants will be awarded a Certificate of Completion Fee: HK$650 Enrol Speaker LI Wing Hong, FRSA Senior lecturer in Voice Studies, Discipline leader of the Musical Theatre Curriculum School of Drama, Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Mr. Li is an Estill Master Trainer and a highly regarded private singing coach, known for his work with popular singers including Louis Cheung, Kay Tse, Keung To, and Lyman Hueng. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and the first Chinese person in Britain to be awarded The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) bursary. After graduating from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with a major in Acting, he further pursued his studies at the Birmingham School of Acting (BSA) and graduated in 2010 with an MA in Professional Voice Practice, earning distinction. He distinguished himself as the Drama Scholar of the English Speaking Union and participated in the Voice Teacher's Course at the Royal National Theatre studio, collaborating with internationally renowned voice practitioners like Patsy Rodenburg, Jeannette Nelson, and Kelly McEvenue. Launching his career in London, he excelled as a TV and film actor, theatre practitioner, and community arts worker. His notable TV credits include Casualty, Judge John Deed (BBC), Ultimate Force, and The Bill (ITV), while his theatre credits encompass performances such as Moonwalking in Chinatown at the Soho Theatre in 2007 and Sweet Mandarin with True Heart Theatre in 2009. Moreover, he has made numerous voice-over and commercial appearances throughout his career. Mr. Li has extensive experience as a director, working on a range of musicals such as Children of Eden, Rent, Songs for a New World, Spring Awakening, and more. He has also directed other productions including The Songs for a New World, Love at First Snow, and My City, My Home. In addition to his directing work, he has served as a voice and singing coach for productions such as Woman in Kenzo and Man of La Mancha.

Lifelong Learning Explore dynamic programmes at EXCEL. Advanced Theatre Acting / Advanced Theatre Acting In Advanced Theatrical Acting, through script analysis, theatrical exercises, and cast setting exercise, students will learn how to understand the script, the intention of playwright, and the psychological interactions between casts. Students will also learn how to use various materials to inspire the creative process in theatre. The courses will guide students to develop acting techniques and their inner strengths through acting exercises and the journey of self-discovery. Students will experience the inevitable linkages between drama and reality. They will be encouraged to apply their theatrical experiences and acting techniques to their daily lives, including their individual roles at work or within their social circles. At the end of the course, students will present their scene work and share with the audience about their creative processes. Friends and families are welcome to join this session and share their achievements. The advanced course is suitable for participants who have already completed EXCEL’s intermediate course or with equivalent acting experience. Acting for Musical Theatre Songs / Acting for Musical Theatre Songs As musical theatre performances are becoming more popular in Hong Kong, the ability to interpret a song has become an important skill. Developing a character (characterization) for the purpose of delivering a song is an essential skill for all musical theatre performers. To perform a song with impact requires sound acting and drama skills. Acting for Musical Theatre Songs teaches you how to deliver a song with strong acting that tells a compelling story, a basic and essential skill in musical theatre. The course has two objectives: (1) to develop characterisation and interpretation skills for performance (or audition) of one song and to develop a rehearsal system with which students can rehearse themselves; and (2) to practice presentation skills appropriate for performing songs. This course is suitable for people with some musical performance experience and want to improve their musical performance skills for audition, musical performance, or musical directing. Experience in musical theatre is helpful but not necessary. Students should note that this is an acting-based course, not a course in vocal skills development. Students need to choose their own solo song (3 minutes maximum) and bring the following to class: 1) Chosen solo song on hard copy; 2) Accompaniment (MMO) track 3) Recording device, such as a smartphone; 4) Ear pods or earphones; and 5) Notetaking devices. Musical Theatre Programme Unleash your creativity and passion on stage. Study Programme / Summer Musical School (SMS) / Sing Out - A Musical 2025 The award-winning dream team of the Hong Kong theatre scene have teamed up with young creatives, sparking new energy in their 2025 production! The Hong Kong original musical "Sing Out - A Musical", which won six major prizes at the 27th Hong Kong Drama Awards, coming to the stage in August 2025. The musical combines the mission of artistic heritage and character education. The 2025 production is organised and produced by HKAPA EXCEL, sponsored by the Lee Hysan Foundation. The professional creative team will collaborate with approximately 70 young people from various institutions to participate in the on-stage and backstage performance, injecting new vigour and creativity into the local musical theatre scene! Directing and Acting Series Unfold the captivating stories ON and OFF screens Copy of Directing and Acting Series / Directing and Acting Series Ho Cheuk Tin x Wing Moa Immersive Film Workshop Step into the Director's Chair - Join us as Director Ho Cheuk Tin, the Best New Director of the 41st Hong Kong Film Awards, renowned for his feature-length films "The Sparring Partner" and "Over My Dead Body," shares his invaluable insights on guiding actors on set. Alongside him, acting coach Wing Moa will shed light on their collaborative process, showcasing their distinct approaches to elicit the best from the actors in their roles. Through live demonstrations and interactive sessions, audience will have the chance to engage directly with the speakers and discover the transformative power of director-actor collaboration. Date: 4 November 2023 (Sat) Time: 2 pm - 6 pm Venue: HKAPA Language: Cantonese Fee: $550 Enrol Speakers Ho Cheuk Tin HO Cheuk Tin is a graduate of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, with a major in directing. After graduation, he participated in a wide range of projects, from feature-length film projects (Unbeatable and To the Fore ), commercials, to music videos. Ho's first feature-length film The Sparring Partner was released in 2022 and became the fourth Hong Kong film to break through HK$40 million box office in the same year. The film received 16 nominations including Best Film and Best Director at the Hong Kong Film Awards. Ho was named the Best New Director of the year. His latest work is Over My Dead Body , a black comedy which has just been released in Hong Kong in April 2023. Wing Moa Graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (Drama) and the University of Hong Kong (Comparative Literature, German, Media and Cultural Studies), Wing Mo is currently an actress, acting coach, and emcee, actively involved in the cultural and arts scene. In recent years, she has been actively engaged in film and television production. including serving as a acting coach and actress for Ho Cheuk-Tin's film The Sparring Partner , Philip Yung's film Papa (unreleased) and ViuTv drama series "十七年命運週期" (unaired). She also starred in ViuTV drama series "島嶼協奏曲" (unaired) and "iSWIM". In addition to her work in film and television, Wing Mo has been nominated for Best Actress at the Hong Kong Theatre Libre Awards, and received the Outstanding Actress Award from HKAPA during her studies. She has participated in over 40 theatrical productions and has performed on stage in Argentina, France, Taiwan, and Mainland China. With extensive hosting experience, Wing Mo won the championship in the CRHK 903 DJ Competition and hosted the radio program "id人辦." She has worked as a host, anchor trainee, and reporter for TVB Entertainment News Channel, Cable TV Entertainment News Channel, and online Travel Program. She has also served as an emcee for the 37th Hong Kong Film Awards ViuTV Red Carpet.
