“Feldenkrais Method is the most extraordinary way of enhancing human abilities I have encountered… it activates a way of learning that involves the brain and the entire self”
Dr Walter Witryol, Rehabilitation Medicine, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine
Feldenkrais Method was founded by Dr Moshe Feldenkrais (1904-1984), a nuclear scientist and Judo Master, after he restored his knee function from accidental knee injury in the 40s using body awareness. Since then, Feldenkrais Method has spread all over the world, with beneficiaries including Israel’s first Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, Alpine Skiing World Champion John Kucera, Stanford University psychology & psychiatry professor Prof Karl Pribram, Anthropologist Margaret Mead, stage director Peter Brook, concert violinist Yehudi Menuhin and so on.
Feldenkrais Method is a way of ‘movement awareness learning’. Through their own movement, students learn to be aware of their movement patterns, and discover new movement options which are unique and suitable to their bodies. This enables them to move efficiently, spontaneously, and effortlessly, with improved balance, flexibility, and a chance to heal from strain and pain.
Feldenkrais students do not learn awareness from imitating Feldenkrais Practitioners’ movement, but from following Instructor’s verbal guidance to doing a series of gentle, nonhabitual, varied movements, by themselves, at their own pace. In the process, students learn to be aware of- and discover the most suitable angle, pace, and force exertion to doing any movement, in their own unique way. Scientists find this distinguished type of organic learning not only results in physical benefits, but also neuroplastic benefits which would rewire the brain, and termed this Neuroplasticity, which can lead to fundamental, sustainable, and profound changes to how we think, feel, and do.

This course is suitable for anyone wanting to improve their flexibility (e.g. athletes or dancers/musicians/theatre performers, or those who experience body tension from prolonged sitting/standing/labouring at work), rehabilitating from recent/past injuries, or wanting to reorganize their bodies in order to ascend their minds.
Course Learning Outcomes:
After completion of the course, students will be able to:
After the course students will be able to have a better overall awareness of different body parts (e.g. neck, shoulder, back, pelvis, hip joints, arms, legs, and knees, etc.), be able to move with their whole-self in a more coordinated way, and be able to discover new movement options which allow them better flexibility, increased range of motion, improved balance, and a chance to heal from strain and pain.
Main learnings:
- How to effectively relieve body from tension, and efficiently exert force throughout the skeleton during movement (Benefits: Prevents strain caused by improper force exertion and accelerates the body's recovery from injury)
- How to move not only with parts of the body, but rather engage the whole body during movement (Benefits: Improved flexibility and balance)
- Discover new, varied movement options (Benefit: Alternative options to inefficient movement habits)
- Integrate learning into everyday life with rewired neural pathways (Benefits: Lasting improvement in physical and mental health)
