Musical Writing (Module from Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) in Drama 

 

" Musical Writing" is a practical course designed to teach students the integration of music, lyrics and text to enhance their musical storytelling skills. Students are required to synthesis their knowledge and skills through collaborative processes and creating original musical works. 

Class exercises include song writing, musical plot writing, sketch writing and presentations. 

Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

1) Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of musical writing skills involved in the roles of lyricist, book writer and / or composer;

2) Integrate music and lyrics to enhance storytelling, using different stylistic forms;

3) Analyse and evaluate their compositions in a critical manner, enhancing them through rewriting processes; and

4) Critically assess their own perspectives on musical theatre composition, considering the genre of the musical and wider contemporary social contexts.

 

(36 hours in total)

 

This module is part of the Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons) in Drama, and it does not contribute to the completion of the BFA programme. Upon passing all assessments and meeting attendance requirements, students will be awarded a Certificate of Completion for the Module (Musical Writing).

    (Payable in 4 instalments; HKD 3,420 per instalment)

     

    *Applicants who apply for the CEF funding for the first application will be subsidised course fees up to HKD 10,708. (After the subsidy, students pay only HKD 2,972 for 36 training hours)
