Music Design and Appreciation for Screen Production (Module from Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) in Film and Television)

 

This course requires students to consider how music contributes to the overall creative and aesthetic impact of screen production. The course offers an overview of the use of music in film and other media formats. The course will explore and demonstrate how music choices are integral ingredients in the creative mix of screen production and can significantly affect intended outcomes. Students are also expected to scrutinize screen texts with an appreciation of the roles and functions of screen sound design, music and compositional styles, and editing practice.

 

 

  • Analysis of the function of music and sound in film; (12 hours)
  • Focus on the history of the development of music compositions for the screen media (12 hours)
  • Textual analysis of different screen productions with emphasis upon the soundtrack (12 hours)
  • Computer music creation for screen media production (12 hours)

    (Payable in 4 instalments; HKD 3,000 per instalment)

     

    *Applicants who apply for the CEF funding for the first application will be subsidised course fees up to HKD 9,600. (After the subsidy, students pay only HKD 2,400 for 48 training hours)
