Introduction to Dance Making (Module from Diploma in Dance Foundation)
The course is designed to introduce students to the study of dance as a performative art, one that incorporates the triadic perspectives of performance, creation and reception, and thus the multiple roles of performer, choreographer and observer. The course integrates two main threads: choreological investigation and dance composition.
The choreological thread focuses on movement as the foundation of dance practice and weaves together principles of Laban Movement Analysis with Choreological Studies to create, perform and analyse movement as it relates to dance.
The composition thread is structured to introduce students to a range of compositional tools and choreographic devices. Movement is the focus of this course: how it can be created, manipulated and crafted as part of the dance making process.
