Lifelong Learning

Explore dynamic programmes at EXCEL.

This workshop guides participants in exploring the artistic thinking and spatial aesthetics behind film set design, and in understanding how cinematic spaces establish atmosphere, shape characters, and drive narrative development within visual storytelling. During the workshop, a professional film instructor will lead participants on a guided visit to the Screen Production and Research Centre (SPaRC) of the School of Film and Television at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Instructors will provide on-site explanations of prop-making and set construction techniques, as well as how spatial configuration can enhance visual storytelling. Participants will also visit a full-scale (1:1) replica set of the "Causeway Bay Yee Wo Street Footbridge," allowing them to closely observe the construction details and spatial composition of a large-scale practical set. Through professional instruction and live demonstration, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how film set art creates authentic and richly layered visual experiences within confined spaces.
