Hong Kong embraces both Chinese and Western cultures, also blending the old and new traditions. Its unique urban environment has long inspired local filmmakers and attracted many overseas film crews to shoot on location. To Kwa Wan, as one of Kowloon’s early mixed-use residential and industrial districts, has deep ties to the film industry. As early as the 1930s, numerous film studios were established there, and many film professionals lived in the area. Later, the district’s old buildings and streets, rich in grassroots character, became popular filming spots. However, with the recent opening of the Tuen Ma Line and the launch of urban redevelopment projects, To Kwa Wan is undergoing significant changes.
This community tour, led by a film culture expert, explores every corner of the district’s streets and alleys, offering an in-depth look at To Kwa Wan’s cinematic legacy—especially the classic films and TV dramas shot in the area. Along the way, participants will hear fascinating local anecdotes and stories, allowing us to rediscover our city through the lens of cinema.
