WHAT IS THIS COURSE ABOUT?
PLAY WITH VOICE™ II: Shaping the Storytelling Voice is the advanced course in the PLAY WITH VOICE™ Voice and Communication series. Building on the foundation of vocal awareness, alignment, articulation, and authenticity introduced in PLAY WITH VOICE™ I, this 10-hour advanced programme (5 sessions, 2 hours each) explores how to transform your voice into a compelling storytelling instrument.
The programme integrates cognitive and kinaesthetic learning. It combines concise lectures and case discussions with actor-based voice and movement exercises, improvisation, role play, rhythm exploration, and collaborative story development. Through the three core dimensions of Agility, Charisma, and Empathy (ACE), participants learn to shape narrative arc, embody character voices, and cultivate emotional resonance:
Agility – Shift pitch, pace, vocal energy and resonance with the changing story. Use vocal play, improvisation and story-arc exercises to keep the voice flexible and the narrative alive.
Charisma – Shape a compelling storytelling presence through vocal colour, phrasing, resonance and intention. Experiment with vocal qualities and character voices to make your voice engaging and memorable.
Empathy – Use phrasing, vocal tone and resonance to communicate perspective, mood and emotional meaning without simply ‘acting’ emotion. Explore how voice can bring the listener closer to the story.
By the end of the course, each participant will craft and perform a 5–7-minute storytelling piece in English, Cantonese, or Putonghua. Suggested genres include personal anecdotes, family stories, standup comedy, brand narratives, business pitch, and professional narration.
TEACHING MEDIUM* Instruction: Conducted primarily in English, complemented by Cantonese for contextual discussion.
* Course Elements: All handouts, case studies, and practical exercises are in written and spoken English.
* Final Presentations: Participants may choose to deliver their final showcase in English, Cantonese, or Putonghua to best match their personal goals and primary audience.
