This is an introduction to flamenco dance, with a concentration on the Tangos, a festive and cheerful dance. This course is suitable for anyone who enjoys dance. No dance or flamenco experience is required. This course is suitable for complete beginners and those with less than one-year experience in flamenco. Students will learn fundamental elements of flamenco including arm positions (braceo), hand movements (floreo), rhythm (compás), simple footwork (zapateado), and markings (marcajes). This class aims at building a solid base with proper body posture, understanding flamenco rhythms and music, and coordinating arm and leg movements.
Beginner Flamenco is a choreography course. Students should wear flamenco shoes or thick heeled shoes (maximum 5cm) with a strong bottom. Proper dancewear is recommended. Women may wear a full circle skirt, while men should wear stretchy slacks suitable for dancing.
If students are unable to prepare appropriate heeled shoes, they may also choose to wear athletic shoes.
